As far as AI goes, the basic agreement seems reasonable:
- AI-generated material will not be considered source material under the MBA, and thus won’t affect writing credits and related rights
- Writers may choose to use AI in their work (with consent and within company guidelines) but they can’t be forced to do so
- If a company hands off an AI-generated script to a writer, they need to disclose it as such
- The guild is reserving the right to later argue against using Guild materials to train AI
This is only one small skirmish amidst the backdrop of major battles to come.
